I don't think we need patronising comments like that. Our 'cute little country' stands proudest of all the anglo countries larger or smaller. It's certainly as big or bigger as Canada, the USA or tiny little Pommyland.

Sun, February 8, 2009 - 2:57 AMYeah! Only Aussies are allowed to say our country is shit house anyways.
Okay New Zealanders too...but they are a bunch of sheep fuckers so who cares about them!
Seriously though, I think it's just Jealousy Jon.

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Sun, February 8, 2009 - 8:38 PMwho called us a cute little bloody country? i'd like to see them say it to our face......if you superimpose Australia over North America it's more or less the same bloody size.... cute little country my ass, even the climate & environment isn't cute! maybe people think the australian people are cute (read: naive, backwater, un-pc)??? -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Fri, February 13, 2009 - 11:17 PMActually, it was meant as a compliment...as population wise you are small compared to your Big Brother the US, and on a global scale (both culturally and ecologically) you are cute (i.e. harmless & attractive).
These things are mean to be positives but feel free to work yourselves into a righteous lather if you wish.
: )
...you know I'm jealous of your country just by my presence on this Tribe!

Amerika *is* your Big Brother... whether you want it or not.
At least for the next few years until we collapse under the weight of our collective ego.

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Tue, February 24, 2009 - 10:14 PMDescribing Oz as a "cute little country" sounds a bit patronizing. A good follow-up thread would be Poisonous Snakes in Your Cute Little Country. Compared with your King Brown, our Pacific Rattlesnake only gives love bites! -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 2:08 AMSince when was the U.S our 'big brother' ? and as for cute...far to many drop bears and other nasties to be 'cute'. But honestly, I can't get past the U.S as our 'big brother' thing. Say that in a great deal of places here with anything more than the dryest of sarcasm and I think you might just get to see how 'cute' we can be. -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 2:04 PM>Since when was the U.S our 'big brother' ?
Australia has been leaning heavily on the U.S, militarily, ever since the Brits abandoned Australia to the Japanese in 1941. That's a fact...and it's why there are several big American Naval bases and air stations in Australia...because the Brits were playing cricket in other theaters of war at the time. Since then Australian foreign policy is to play along with whatever the U.S. wants pretty much...with a handful of exceptions since WWII.
As for Australia being 'cute'? Not! Anyone who thinks Australia is 'cute' hasn't spent enough time there and/or is trolling. -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 3:26 PMThe USA is a very uncompassionate and greedy Big Brother to much of the world. A Big Brother who rapes and sodomizes his siblings while torturing his parents by making them watch helplessly.
Hopefully this will change in our lifetime. -

Thu, April 9, 2009 - 4:36 PMHey, Australia and America get along quite well...a lot of the time. -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Thu, April 9, 2009 - 5:03 PMMedical Insurance companies and Pharmaceuticals get along quite well a lot of the time as well...that does not mean they are up to anything good.
But wait a minute, Australia has socialized medicine, so are not subjected to the tyranny of health care as those of us in the USA.
Monsanto may grow corn, but that does not make them honest hard working farmers with a real relationship to the land. Perhaps that makes it more understandable.

Australia >currently< has socialized medicine. A decade ago Howard and his ilk were trying to do away with it...just sayin..."because if it's good enough for America, it's good enough for us!" -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Fri, April 10, 2009 - 9:11 AMIf it is good enough for America, it is good enough for us? Who paid him off to say that ignorant remark? Oh yeah, I bet it was some Pharmaceutical representative.
The American Way is not to be emulated or desired. Our record of infant mortality, etc. leaves much to be desired.
France and Great Brittan have prime examples of what Health Care should be about, as does Canada and Australia. -

Re: Our 'cute little country'
Fri, April 10, 2009 - 12:05 PMSorry. It's an official state secret privilege to know that sort of thing. Us American citizens aren't allowed to know or challenge those sort of actions. Sorry. Move along. -
