Would you like to have some fun throwing some ideas and opinions around?
If so, have a go at answering some of these questions or even pose some of your own.
So what does Australia day mean to you as an "Aussie"?
What will green technology & government policy do to drag racing and the summer nats etc. ?
What's your sense of Australian identity?
Are we heading towards being leaders in beer drinking or sporting excellence or is it just a case of 20% achieve and 80% celebrate the achievments?
What is it exactly that we are celebrating on Australia day?
Do aboriginals fit into that sense of identity?
If so do they play a large or small role?
If our war veterans were young and fit again what would they be doing about those whaling Jap's in our Australian waters?
What's your favourite Australianism?
Where do you see us heading as a nation in the wider world?
Do you believe Rudd's gonna make us a better nation as a whole?
What's your favourite uniquely Aussie past time?
What's the number one beer in all of australia?
If so, have a go at answering some of these questions or even pose some of your own.

Re: Australia day is fast approaching
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 4:44 PMAs an Aussie - Australia Day (to me) symbolises a Public Holida and if we're especially lucky (like this year) a long weekend.
Green techology...government policy, huh wah? Summer Nats - woo hoo!
My oz id is basically as obviously being a convict import, which explains my distrust/dislike of the beach, love of cricket (but GOOD cricket) and most national sports as well as outdoor entertainment. That's about as deep as I get.
Definitely leaders in beer drinkers.....with NZ chomping at our heels.
We're celebrating the public holiday ;)
Aborigines fit in the same type/size/capacity as the rest of us do.
If our veterans were young and fit again they wouldn't give two tosses about the whales and might just want to kill the japs for looking different.
My favourite Australianism happens to be the one I use the most - 'arse over tit'.....it's my favourite way to fall.
Have no idea where the nationa is heading actually....hopefully not so deep in America's pocket.
I think Rudd is going to give it an honest go.
When I was a kid it was jumping in the pool after vegemite sandwich lunches, then running inside still half wet to lie in the air-conditioned living room and watching cricket. Nowadays......pie eating, BBQ cooking, cricket watching, water-fighting, aussie-waving in summer and watching the occasional AFL game is about it.
I couldn't tell you which beer is the best. I'l drink anything but a VB so I'm no judge! -

Fri, January 25, 2008 - 7:02 PMWowo Australia Day already!
I have fond memories of entering the sand castle competitions and thong throwing contests...and don't forget the watermelon eating contests as well.
My favorite aussie word 'yobbo'. -

Re: Australia day is fast approaching
Sat, January 26, 2008 - 1:14 AMYeah I watched it, pretty funny
I remember Frankston with fondness, late nights on the revolving dancefloor of the 21st Century night club. What a dive.
I had some friends in Carrum and Seaford many moons ago....normally you couldn't pay us to go south of Aspendale, we considered ourselves to be living in the sticks and Frankston was half an hour further out from the City!
(that's another good one - "the sticks") -

Sun, January 27, 2008 - 3:49 AMNot Shit.
My parents met at the Caravan park there :)
The Park used to be owned by my Grandfathers Cousin - and my Grandparents (and mum + sisters) went there every Dec-Jan for many years..

Re: Australia day is fast approaching
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 5:14 PMi grew up in madelaide. wessssside, wrong-side of the tracks madelaide.
wasssup?
but we did have a/c and [lol] an above the ground put in the ground swimming pool.
(yes, gabsta, have you noticed the name change? it goes from madelaide to sadelaide to badelaide, to ads, the 'laide - hee hee -laid- ... and amongst my 3 friends who have chosen (ahem??) to stay here, radelaide. note, i NEVER use that term.)
I may have 'made in australia' tattooed on me (being removed - am wayyyy more patriotic when living in different hemispheres) and the southern cross on my right shoulder blade ... but australia day always means more to me when i'm overseas! how fucked up is that???
*grin*
