As the "Axis tilt" is a proven periodic event, and we are overdue this cycle, the only question is how soon will this occur, and what we should be doing. In Australia, my view is that "escape capsules" should be developed that would at least save up to 6 people with basic food and survival gear. Public internet forums must explore what this would entail and how to implement this for the average family that wants to survive. Similarly, survival is not just individuals surviving the disaster, but how to form a functional survival group after, as a community that is self supporting will have a greater chance of success than ramshackle groups of survivors with guns trying to seize power and food from each other. Finally, even if 21 DEC 2012 is not the actual date - it is coming, and preparing for it by providing a capsule that can save your family or be improved and passed on to the next generation if not needed is a smart thing to do and should be discussed.

Re: Surviving 2012 - Australia
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 7:12 PMThe Mormons have been preparing for this type of event for generations. Something like eight years per person.( I am no longer a Latter Day Saint, but a Pagan). The storage of food and necessaties is common for many groups. Here in the State of Jefferson (Northern California and Southern Oregon) many communities have been preparing for what we refer to as "peak oil". We realize our bogus economy based on oil is in its death throws, no matter what our terrorist government tells us. We believe in a peaceful, locally based economy. I would advise you all to study what Willits, CA. in Mendocino County has done. They have successfully implemented the plan formed and made real by the citizens there, called the Willits Economic Localization or called well for short. The larger circle is divided into smaller units, each with an area to develope for survival in the event of a natural disaster such as earthquake, fires, or <<she wispers>>> government intervention in our lives. They can do that without question since THEY, not us, passed the Patriot Act. Sort of like Nazi Germany, but I ramble. Anyway, each sub circle is focused on either energy, food, water, health, transportation, education, communication, etc... I was involved in the health bubble for a short time before I moved. The hospital was working to keep solar available, the physicians and nurses were lobbying to get herbal medicines included in health insurance, the nurses were keeping track of all the shut ins/ elderly in the community to insure they were not left unattended in the event of a disaster. Stockpiling of meds with rotation to insure fresh supply is being done. Other circles had the schools put on solar powre. The community was being educated in what used to grow there to feed the local people, as now it is a lot of wine grapes. there were pears, wheat, plums, nuts. anyway, water issues were being addressed, as well as short wave radios. What the community could offer in trade (lumber and marijuana) were being dealt with too. It is way to much to get into here and now. But it can be done. Peacefully, with respect for our neighbors, sort of like a tribal effort. and yes, here in the U.S.A. Of course, the State of Jefferson area is progressive in its thinking. That is how it is getting done. Yes, each family must meet its own needs, but really, each family must realize its connectedness to its community, and realize that tribal systems are the natural state of existence for humans, not the system of what is in majority now.

Re: Surviving 2012 - Australia
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 7:52 PMThankyou Suzi,
The cataclysms that the Earth Tilt will precipitate is beyond anything that has been prepared for to my knowledge. Only small pockets of people in very high places will have a chance against kilometer high tidal waves, and even then, volcanic activity and earthquakes will decimate even these hardy survivors. All groundwater will be salt water for centuries - until the new geography gradually washes all surface salt and water to the new sea. Sunlight may be a rare commodity for years until the volcanic dust and ash settle. Food, drinking water and shelter - even soil to grow food will be a huge test for the meager survivors - but survive we will. We as a race have survived this Earth tilt numerous times in the past and I firmly believe that we as a race will survive it this time.
I believe with our current level of technology we can produce escape pods that will allow determined individuals to survive, but this will not be an easy task. It will not be easy, not so much because of the creative technology needed to create these pods, but to fight the resistance and ridicule following this path will undoubtedly cause from family, friends and even complete strangers.
Have the Mormans an answer to this?
cheers and beers
Happy Joe

If you feel the need to make a donation, how about the Catholic Priests Legal Defense Fund?

Re: Surviving 2012 - Australia
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 10:08 PMThe Elders of the worlds ancient societies, ie Native Americans both north, central and south, African, Asian, and yes even from your part of the world have told us that this has happened before, will happen again, and a few of us will survive. We must be prepared to bring to the new world a spiritual base filled with stories ands truths to rebuild the society we will want and need. Expecting the pods to save us is great. We must, however, realize we will be living in a world that will require us to have a totally different set of skills than that which sustain us now. How and what will you have to survive once you leave the pod? I suggest you put into your pod the life skills, tools, and mind set that will sustain you and your loved ones once you leave your humble abode and venture forth into the new world. Most of what you know and use today will not be of any use when it comes to living. It will be very primative. Hunter/gatherer will be the way. I think the Aboriginals of Australia could teach us all about the right way of living on the earth. They have it down pat as far as I am concerned. A balance with nature, a right relationship with water, food, and a spirituality that honors themselves and the world.
Perhaps you could start a forum tribe on this subject?
