yay!

after 6 months back in the city of churches and barrels, i've decided i cannot handle it any longer and am following my heart to melbourne.

that is all.

except i'm just wondering how many tribers are melbournians .. or even melburnians ...? maybe i'll check out that tribe now ... i think i'm actually a member already ;)

again, yay melbourne!

    Welcome back to WONDERFUL Melbourne.

Even though I originally hail from the UK, I always call Melbourne home and have returned back to live here 4 times after living in Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and UK.

When I decided to return to Australia after living in the UK for 10 years recently, I had the pick of the continent as to where to live.

My eyes and heart always took me back to Melbourne. And even then, I returned back to Richmond for the third time.

richmond's pretty cool, i do love fitzroy, all around brunswick street, and have some friends who live in an amazing place in st. kilda.

i'm thinking though of trying to get into monash to do my phd (i'm doing it here in sadelaide, but since i'm on a govt scholarship, it should be relatively ok [not easy] to get in, and also, the school of philosophy and bioethics looks freakin awesome! yay philosophy being taken seriously in australia!). anyhoo, the point of that rave, was that i may look into trying to find somewhere around monash ... i know it's pretty far away from the city, but i have a dog, and finding a rental that allows pets is pretty hard anywhere, esp in the heart of a city (well, it seems that way in ad, unless you're a bazillionaire). Cheaper, maybe bigger, and I can always pop on the train to see all my lovely melbourne kids!

      am sooooooooo excited!

when i came back from being in boston for many yrs, i did consider melbs, but finances and other stuff kinda forced me back here. now, i don't care if i'm living on ramen and lentils forever ...!

      ;)

what part of the uk are you you from? i lived and worked there for a while, yup, that whoe working visa thing! i did spend about half my time on the continent though ... sigh ...

[stares off wistfully into distance ...]

dude, i fucking GREW UP HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fucking kudos to me for not ending UP in a barrel (did you see how much swearing my roots [ha ha - i said 'roots'] engender in me?!?!)

Yah, lived here for 22yrs, overseas for 8.

      guess why?

the central markets are nice though, and the coastline is lovely.

and the food and wine are great, and if you know where to go, it can be a pretty cool place ... but for me, it's not so much the city, but the ghosts of my past that surround me here. ok yes, there will be at least a couple of ex-es i run a very high risk of seeing in melbs [esp since we listen to the same music, and one of them is in a melb band that's doing really well there ... no names no names!].

but yeah, adelaide is stifling at times, and seriously, since i brought my dog over from boston, and won't put him through that again, i'm stuck in oz for a good 6-10 yrs [fingers crossed! wood touched etc], so i'd rather live in melbs where i have a really good support network of friends. also, since i can't put a hemisphere, equator and international dateline between my family and myself, a border has to be sufficient!

      i'm not *even* joking!

          yay! just joined!

i have heard of that, but i'm in about a bazillion tribes already .. i'm like a butterfly ... flit flit flit .. ooh, that sounds interesting, i'll join that! oooh, that too, click!

i don't think any of my exes know abt tribe, but i have found them on facebook and my major one's band on myspace. it's one of the prob's (one of!) coming from ads, you know ALL the same people, and have ALL the same friends ...

luckily michael and i are cordial, i ran into him in meb once when i was visiting peeps at belle and sebastian, and it was fine.

though he has absolutely more than enough reason to despise me still ...

i choose to end my story here!

          thanks sandy crotch!

          ;)

            My pleasure,

and good name dropping on the belle and seb - very cool

and since you have paid to be here on tribe I'm guessing you have way too much time on your hands for these frivilous activities, which makes you the perfect person for Melbourne Funky Feral cos we talk a WHOOOOLEEE lot of crap there that's fur sure!

more to discuss re: Michael, which means you'll have to join the red tent also - queue Smelky....

hee hee ... i think i'm already in that tribe! see what i mean .. i am *such* a tribewhore ... at least i can admit it.

i hear there's a 12 step programme, but im too busy tribing to take part.

i mainly paid because i joined when my boston tribe intro'd me to this fantabulous site, and now that i'm back in oz, feel really far away from a lot of people who are mainly in the usa.

and yeah, i spend soooooooooooooo much time here ... can you tell im a phd student?!?

... yeah, you're pretty bad dude! but yes, i have been here longer, and thus, am completely allowed to spend as much time procrastinating and *not* writing my research proposal as i damn well feel like! seriously though, i think i do use tribe *even* more (if that's poss?!?) since i bought the subscription thingie ... maybe i feel like i've earned the right to be an out and out tribewhore, since now i really do pay for its services ..?

but it's not about paying the whore to leave, it's about the snuggling afterwards ...

oh, and don't shoot me, but i don't really like beer that much, unless it's coopers dark ale, or yummy expensive belgian beers ...

i do adore a nice cider, or a pimms and lemonade, but only after i go punting on the river .. erm, yarra?

i will also drink, and this list includes but is not limited to:

                  -gin and tonic
                  -vodka
                  -baileys
-all varieties of wine except that gertztruminahshrlkla .. whatever it's called, i don't even deign to know how to spell it, since i don't drink it.
                  -rum
                  -cointreau

                  etc etc

                  and of course, champagne!!!

        <dude, i fucking GREW UP HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! >

Oops! lol. Sorry bout that ;)

It's funny - I've never been to SA so I should really shut my gob. Have a fair few mates from there though and most of the quality ones are ones that were bought up in the bush....but I suppose their most likely to be the serial killers, he he he.

        Well, good luck in Melbourne!

Adelaide...all I can recall is chomping on asparagus (is there something special about SA asparagus) and stomping round the Bridgestone factory...
